We hosted another extremely successful Karaoke/Talent Night here at the KYC! Teens who initially were too nervous to get in front of the microphone stepped up as the evening went along. Peers encouraged and supported one another and everyone had a great time! This is what we’re all about- exposing teens to new experiences and gently encouraging them to try what excites them, in a safe and supportive environment. KYC offers FREE programs to all 7th-12th graders who live in the GWRSD. Contact us for more information!

Our teens love being in the kitchen! Volunteers know this and are always bringing in fun kitchen projects! Every Tuesday Sandy brings in a treat for teens to decorate and we can see their skills improving! Diane T, another volunteer, regularly leads baking projects with our teens as well! YUM! ?
An impromptu chess tournament popped up at the KYC last week when we were talking and realized a large group of teens plus the staff knows how to play chess! At one point three chess boards were being used simultaneously!

Last week we celebrated the first day of spring with a campfire and our first game of Gaga Ball of the year! Teens led games around the fire, including a game a teen learned at their summer camp. We love the extra light and warmth- it gets more of our teens outside to enjoy the fresh air and sunlight!

The teens at the KYC had the opportunity to help out at the Cabin Fever family fun night @carpenterschool! The @carpenterschoolpto put on an amazing event and we were more than happy to help! Teens gave participating elementary aged children glitter tattoos and painted faces! What a fun night! We were so glad to have been asked to help- we are always excited for ways to give back to our community.

We went all out for St Patrick’s Day thanks once again to volunteer Diane Thayer! She always puts together such fun holiday celebrations for our teens! We kicked things off with Shamrock Shakes which were a huge hit, and followed that with days of games! Gold coins, rainbows, cabbages and leprechauns were the themes and all had loads of prizes and laughs. It’s always fun around here thanks to our teens, volunteers, and staff!

The KYC is collaborating with the Wolfeboro Public Library once again to create some art for the public to enjoy! Teens are working on painting four of the windows facing the parking lot, which are located right next to the indoor murals we built and painted a few years ago! By next week that hallway will be filled with KYC art! A huge thank you to @wolfeboro.public.library for the invitation to collaborate and to Nancy Porter for your help!

One of our KYC teens offered a “Hot Cocoa Bar,” yesterday afternoon after a large group came back from a 2+ miles long walk. Everyone enjoyed choosing from the menu and sipping their warm treats while playing games!

Last week, due to weather, we had to postpone our babysitters course, which will be held April 29. However, we did still hold a program on Wednesday! We played groups games, did some Improv, and did all three parts of the Magical Yoga Club! We started with a love and self-love mediation, then moved into a 20 minute yoga flow (wow was it challenging!). We wrapped up with a game called Story or Pose. Much giggling was heard over poses, tumbles, and stretches… and even during Savasana, the final resting pose. This is how we do things at the KYC though! We make sure to incorporate fun and flexibility (pun intended), and meet our teens WHERE THEY ARE AT! And if that looks like giggling while laying on our backs in savasana well then… giggle away! @magicalyogaorg

On Wednesday evenings, teens stay until 7:30pm. We have dinner together and do a group activity. Last night was Fitness Night! We played the game Story or Pose, created by local youth advocate @magicalyogaorg . We then played some competitive games afterward, to get out our energy! Afterward we enjoyed homemade dessert and watched a short show together. There was a lot of laughter, camaraderie and fun, which is exactly what fitness in both mind and body, is all about!
