Babysitter Basics Course with 4-H

We were delighted to have such an amazing turn out to the Babysitters Basics course which was offered at the KYC over April vacation! Karen, from UNH Cooperative Extension and 4-H, led a group of 24 local youth through the basics of babysitting! All 24 attendees left as certified babysitters through UNH!

 

Outdoor Fun

We had a wonderful campfire afternoon and evening at the KYC last week! We collected kindling and built a fire all together, and played a getting to know one another “scavenger hunt.” We took a break for a bit to ride bikes and run around and then came back to enjoy a campfire cooked dinner of sausage and veggies. We played some more group games around the fire and of course enjoyed s’mores! This is the perfect time of year for a campfire and we are thoroughly enjoying our beautiful patio, fire pit, and benches, all built for us by a teen who used this as their Eagle Scout project! Easter Fun with Diane!

We played so many fun spring and Easter themed games over the last week! Volunteer Diane brought so many treats and fun games for us to enjoy! We hope you all are enjoying this warmer weather! 🐣

Global Gourmet with 4-H

Karen with 4-H and UNH Cooperative Extension led teens through a 3 week program called Global Gourmet. Each week we learned about foods from around the world, did a taste test of different foods, and then made a dish from that area! We explored: Italy, Germany, and Africa, and made polenta, potato dumplings and tropical fruit salad, respectively. It was hands on, informative, engaging, and delicious! @newhampshireinourhands

Happy Earth Day! We cleaned up the trail behind the KYC as a small way to give back to this beautiful planet! 🌎

 

It’s Everyone’s Birthday!

It’s Everyone’s Birthday! Actually… it’s not, but we pretended it was! For an evening program, we threw a birthday party for… well… EVERYONE! We made a birthday cake, sang to everyone, played musical chairs and pin the bow on the gift, and hosted a gift exchange with gifts from the KYC! It was so much fun!

Mindfulness with 4-H

Karen from 4-H has been leading Mindfulness programs at the KYC! We were introduced to some VR mindfulness activities, which you can see have been EXTREMELY relaxing! On another evening we learned about settling our thoughts and made Mindfulness Jars as a concrete way to practice mindfulness.

More Baking and Springtime Fun!

Spring time fun! We baked a bunny cake, went on an egg hunt, and have been enjoying the dryer ground and nicer weather and playing lots of outdoor games!

Karaoke Night!

We hosted another extremely successful Karaoke/Talent Night here at the KYC! Teens who initially were too nervous to get in front of the microphone stepped up as the evening went along. Peers encouraged and supported one another and everyone had a great time! This is what we’re all about- exposing teens to new experiences and gently encouraging them to try what excites them, in a safe and supportive environment. KYC offers FREE programs to all 7th-12th graders who live in the GWRSD. Contact us for more information!

Cheffing-It-Up

Our teens love being in the kitchen! Volunteers know this and are always bringing in fun kitchen projects! Every Tuesday Sandy brings in a treat for teens to decorate and we can see their skills improving! Diane T, another volunteer, regularly leads baking projects with our teens as well! YUM! 🍪
