Each year the KYC hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner on the final after-school program day before Thanksgiving.  We enjoy a traditional meal and share what we are thankful for.  This year’s dinner is scheduled for today!    Below is a photo from last year’s feast.

Life Skills!

i Nov 14th by

A big part of our mission here at the KYC is to teach teens important life skills.  This year’s life skills programs focus on four major categories: employment, education, family and relationships, and hobbies adventure and travel.  Last week, we took a look at the employment category.

Students hunted for job openings and presented their findings to their peers.  Some of the jobs they found: Walgreens cashier, Hunter’s IGA cashier, Counter Help at Anthony’s Pizza, Kitchen Assistant a Huggins Hospital.

What a great trip!  Thank you again Camp Sentinel!

Tick-or-Treat?!

i Nov 1st by

We’ve had a great time celebrating Halloween this season!

We had a discussion about celebrating safely with Eric from White Horse.  We talked about ways to stay safe while out at night,  the dangers of substance use and other dangerous choices, and how to spot intoxicated drivers.

Students spent time getting their costumes ready for the big night!

A group of us assembled in Clark Park to hand out Hot Chocolate and cake to trick-or-treaters!

Nice work KYCers!  What a fun night.  We hope everyone had a happy Halloween!

Red Ribbon Week 2018

i Oct 30th by

Red Ribbon Week 2018 Runs from October 23 to October 31.  The Red Ribbon Campaign is an annual event sponsored by the National Family Partnership.  The red ribbon emerged as a symbol in memory of Enrique Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was brutally murdered in 1985.  Camarena’s tragic death was a demonstration of the widespread negative impact of substances.  During Red Ribbon Week, Red Ribbons are displayed to spread awareness surrounding the consequences of substance misuse.

The KYC has established an annual tradition of creating a Red Ribbon visual, which includes the campaign’s annual slogan and is decorated with students’ reasons for choosing to be drug free.   The 2018 slogan is: Life is your Journey, Travel Drug Free!

In honor of Red Ribbon Week, we have been showing the video of the KYC’s ‘Dip with Chucky.’  Chucky lost two of his sons to drug overdoses   In the name of substance misuse prevention, Chucky Rosa swims in the ocean every day of the year.  On August 1, the KYC joined him for his daily dip!  At the end of the video, a KYCer proclaims the Red Ribbon Week slogan.  Life is your Journey, Travel Drug Free!

The KYC would like to thank everyone who helps teens make the most of their journeys!

An Afternoon Hike to Moody Mountain!

Yesterday in our after school program a group of us took a hike to Moody Mountain.  Near the summit there is a fine view and a cabin!  The summit is the highest point in the town of Wolfeboro.  Thanks to our volunteer Shelly and the seven students who joined us for a great fall hike!
