Cheffing-it-Up Redesigned!

i Oct 22nd by

All of the KYC’s programs have needed to be redesigned to ensure safety amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.  The KYC’s culinary education program, affectionately, named, Cheffing-it-Up, has had to take a ‘back burner’ due to the realities of the pandemic.  Making bread-in-a-bag proved to be a great way for students to make there own individual culinary master piece without entering the Center’s kitchen.  A past beloved KYC volunteer shared this recipe with us!  It has proven to be a fun and hygienic cooking activity!

Thank you New Hampshire Electric Co-op Foundation

i Oct 21st by
We would like to say a big thank you to the New Hampshire Electric Co-op Foundation for a recent grant to support the KYC’s Nutrition Assistance Programs. These funds will be invested in the KYC Kupboard and hot meals and snacks served during our programs. A large contingency of the KYC’s families are NHEC members.
NHEC members have the opportunity to support NHEC Foundation through participation in the Round Up Program, which rounds members’ monthly bill up to the nearest dollar and contributes the total of the adjustment to the Foundation. For more information visit, www.nhec.com/round-up-program

Building Picnic Tables!

i Oct 14th by

The KYC has taken on the challenge of building two picnic tables.  Students have been working hard to move and measure lumber, stain, sand, and assemble!  We are all learning some pretty handy carpentry skills!  Nice work KYCers and thank you to our local donors who have made this possible!

A Hike to Whiteface Mountain!

i Sep 29th by

With the need to social distance and take other important precautions, outdoor activities have been the perfect choices for KYC programs!  We have been blessed with wonderful weather, which has made our summer and fall programs a great success.  Last week we took a hike to Whiteface Mountain, right here in Wolfeboro!  We encountered only a couple of folks on the trail from Brown’s Ridge Road and were able to keep distance and enjoy a nice afternoon.

The trail cuts under the mountains east cliffs (the ‘white face!’) and traverses up to the summit where there are wonderful views north and east.  We beheld multiple lakes and mountains including Green Mountain, Mt. Chocorua, and Mt. Washington!  Great hike with the KYC!

School Year Programs Have Begun!

i Sep 22nd by

After a great summer of programs the KYC opened to in-person school year programs on the very first day of school!  While things have looked a lot different, it is so wonderful to be hosting our wonderful teens.  Socially distanced games, arts/crafts, bike rides,  hiking, and more have made for a really fun start to the school year!

Global Art for Peace Exchange

i Aug 26th by

This year we participated in the Global Art Project for Peace Exchange!  Through this fun program, groups of youth from around the world are paired up to exchange peace themed works of art.  The KYC has participated in this program for many years and it has proven to be a wonderful way to promote world peace and build global connections.  This year the KYC was paired with Ever Day Art Studio in Malaysia.  Yesterday our work of art started it’s journey from Wolfeboro Falls post office to Malaysia!

For this year’s exchange, we decorated a globe with themes of global peace and global health.  The globe is ‘wearing’ a face mask to represent the measures being taken around the world to stop the spread of COVID-19.  One end of the face mask is pinned on the northeastern United States and the other is pinned on Malaysia to represent our connection made through Global Art Project for Peace!  KYC and Ever Day Art Studio logos are adhered at our respective countries.

Run For Hope!

i Aug 10th by

Last week, a small group from the KYC walked in Families In Transition-New Horizon’s fourth annual Run for Hope.  This virtual event was a perfect socially distanced activity for the KYC’s recently reopened programs!

Thank you to the board members and staff members who donated to cover KYC teens’ registrations costs!

The Hope House is a great friend of the KYC.  Through past collaborations, KYC teens have toured the Hope House and have contributed hand-made fleece blankets to Hope House families.  The success of this virtual fundraiser is great inspiration as we prepare for our adaptive new fund-raiser, ‘The Chilly Challenge,’  a cold November swim followed by a virtual celebration!

Summer Programs at the KYC!

i Aug 5th by

We are happy to announce that we have opened for summer programs under the State of NH Day Camp Guidance!  Programs are certainly different, but it’s been great seeing our teens!  (Teens interested in participating should contact the KYC).

We are now offering in-person programs on Monday nights and Thursday afternoons, virtual programs on Wednesday nights, and food for families from our own mini thrift shop, ‘The KYC Kupboard!’

During our summer programs, we’ve enjoyed games, campfires, walks, bike rides, and time with friends.  We decorated our bus for the Town of Wolfeboro 4th of July Decorating contest, and are working on a work of art to send to students in Malaysia through the Global Art of Peace Project!

Everyone at the KYC would like to say a big thank you to the John Brewster Trust for their past support and for supporting our 2020-2021 programs!

Care Packages and Unveiling the KYC Kupboard!

i Jul 8th by

For thirteen weeks in a row, the KYC provided care packages to our KYC members and their families! Every Thursday, KYC staff compiled boxes and bags filled with fresh produce, meats, dairy, shelf stable items, treats, take home activities, and more! Families took turns driving up and loading their cars. We regularly provided packages for upwards of 30 students weekly.

As summer has approached, the KYC has moved away from care packages and has replaced them with our brand new KYC Kupboard! The KYC Kupboard is filled with food and other shelf stable items. Spaghetti, sauces, canned fruits and vegetables, baking items, drinks, cereal, shelf stable juices and milk, chips, crackers, granola bars, cookies, and more are available for families to load up on! We are excited to add in yet another resource to our repertoire here at the KYC!

All of this goes into one weekly care package!
