Yesterday a group of teens joined us here at the KYC to prep for the upcoming Chili Challenge Fundraiser. The Chili Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, September 14 from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the Durgin Stables Green in Downtown Wolfeboro. We hope to see you there!
We stopped briefly at the Wright Museum for a group photo and to thank them for hosting us last week!
Students worked with our new staff member, Sue to bake 48 brownies, which will be sold at the fundraiser. Others made signs, packed spoons, napkins, and tickets for patrons and helped organize the “Hot Pepper Silent Auction!”
Rain, rain it’s okay!
A little rain won’t wreck our day!
Yesterday we made good use of a rainy day in summer programs!
We shared our schedules and feelings about the fast approaching school year.
We teamed up for trivia! A close match!
We enjoyed a home-cooked hot lunch! Baked macaroni and cheese!
Some braved the weather and played outside!
We held a Lego building contest!
We cooked in our kitchen! S’mores cups!
We visited the Nick to walk the track, play on the playground (as the rain took a break), and play board games under cover!
Not bad for a rainy August day. Next week in summer programs we visit the Wright Museum! If the weather’s better, we’ll hit the beach too!
Yesterday we took a tour of Lakes Region Community College and then visited Weir’s Beach for swimming, arcade games, and ice cream! Not a bad day in KYC summer programs!
We learned a lot in our tour of Lake Region Community College in Laconia, NH. Students at LRCC can earn certificates and Associate’s Degrees. Many students transfer from Assoicate’s Degree programs to four year schools where they earn Bachelor’s. LRCC prepares students for rewarding careers and/or further education! We toured the Nursing Department, the Science Department, the Automotive Department, the Electro-Mechanical Technologies Department, and more. We also learned about degree programs in business, education, liberal arts, culinary arts, and more! Thank you LRCC!
After our tour, we hit Weir’s Beach for swimming, arcade games, and ice cream!
We had another great day in our Summer programs! We took a trip to the Libby Museum, where we enjoyed a live animal show as well as their mainstay exhibits! Thank you Libby for this fun opportunity. We also offered lunch and art projects at the KYC and enjoyed a swim in 19-mile bay! Thank you everyone for another great day!

Yesterday we enjoyed a favorite KYC program: a dip with Chucky Rosa of Chucky’s Fight at Seabrook Beach! Rosa swims in the ocean everyday of the year in honor of his two sons who he lost tragically, and to help teens choose to be substance free. Eight KYC students joined us for the swim. Each student made a pledge to make good choices and received a set of Chucky’s Fight dog tags as a reminder of their commitment. Then we took to the sea and joined Rosa for his daily dip. Mary Rosa of Chuckys Fight filmed the event. Thank you Chuckys Fight for your devotion, good work, and hospitality! Thank Eric Moran CRSW of White Horse Addiction Center for joining the dip! We had a busy day in our summer programs yesterday! We started with a great morning bike ride on the Cotton Valley Rail Trail. Then we paid a visit to the Rotary Club of Wolfeboro’s Meeting. After a few Fundraising stops, we hit the beach!
We are so lucky that the 12-mi Cotton Valley Rail Trail abuts the KYC’s property! This multi-use trail is great for biking, walking, jogging, and winter activities. The KYC takes advantage of the trail all year long. Yesterday, we started our day of programs with a morning bike ride on the trail. We departed the Center, crossed the Fernald Brook, and proceeded beyond the route 109 crossing. Following a great ride, we returned to the KYC for a cookout!
After lunch we visited the bi-weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Wolfeboro. The KYC was founded by Wolfeboro Rotary almost 20 years ago. KYC members, staff and volunteers thanked the Rotary for founding and continually supporting the KYC. The 10 year anniversary of our move to the Center Street location (October 2019) and the 20 year anniversary of the KYC (May 2020) are coming up! We look forward to involving Rotary in the celebration! We are very excited that the Rotary may get in on the competition in this year’s Chili Challenge Fundraiser! Rotarians posed some great questions to our youth, which the teens did a great job addressing!
Next we had a few stops related to our 10th Annual Chili Challenge Fundraiser which is scheduled for Saturday September 14, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the Durgin Stables Green in Wolfeboro. Thank you to the many organizations who have sponsored us so far! We are still looking for community sponsors!
Finally, we hit the beach! What a great day to enjoy Albee Beach!
Today we had the pleasure of joining the Pittsfield Youth Workshop (PYW) for a day of programs. It was a pleasure to meet youth, staff, and volunteers from another youth center! Thanks PYW!
Programs included a group hike to Pine Mountain in Alton, a group picnic and cornhole, and a KYC swim in Alton Bay! We were thrilled that the weather proved favorable and we were able to join forces in getting teens outside!
We hope to collaborate with PYW and other youth centers in the future. The fun is even greater when youth centers unite!

The KYC is excited to announce that our milestone event, The 10th Annual Chili Challenge Fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday September 14, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the Durgin Stables Green in Wolfeboro.
Ways to support this important milestone event:
In today’s summer program, we started by providing some ‘trail magic.’ Trail Magic is Appalachian Trail Thru Hikers’ (those hiking the entire trail between GA and ME!) term for random good deeds provided by hikers and local folks. We set up at Pinkham Notch Visitor’s Center with cold milk, brownies, and lemonade. We got to meet several thru hikers and hear a bit about their amazing journeys. We also met many other cool hikers.
Then we hit the trail ourselves! We took the famed Tuckerman’s Ravine trail up to the scenic Crystal Cascade.
Finally, we enjoyed a swim in Emerald Pool!
